Sometimes I think my dad only calls me when he needs tech support… can anyone else relate?
Put another way, family tech support in some families is the only dialogue members have with one another…
BTW, Aarti came up with today’s punchline. I can’t take any credit, as much as I’d love to…

tech support isn’t the only topic in my family, but if i’d succeeded explaining comp stuff to my mother in 2 minutes i think i’d drop a tear of joy too :)
I put and end to free tech support in my family a while ago. It was becoming a real abuse. Consequently, we don’t have any conversation topic anymore and hardly ever talk to each other. But that’s no problem: each member of the family has a TV in his room so that there’s still enought noise around the house to hide our silence. Aren’t 21st century families great?
You are not alone in this. So much not alone, that songs have been written about the situation, like the aptly named “Tech Support for Dad” by Tom Smith. http://filkertom-itom.blogspot.com/2007/05/interlude-tech-support-for-dad-live.html
Great song. So painfully true. Really brought a smile to my face. :)
